Anime Matsuri '14

Hello!
I had such a lovely time at Anime Matsuri. I went to my first rave and concert. Nightmare was playing and I sang the Death Note theme song far too loudly... I embarrassed myself. It was the best socially crippling fun that I had ever had.
On Friday, I left really early to get all the way down to Houston on time.
Sleepy...

But, I got all pink as Punk Princess Bubblegum:

All the iPhone selfies... You can see the photoshoot here.
My friend makes such a good Marshall.
(Teaser... Hehe... Do you feel teased?)

But, then I got sick of all the pink.
And changed for the formal thing...

To the rave!

Then, on Saturday, I was a steampunk birdwatcher...

I did a photoshoot early that day, too. Here is a taste:

You can see the rest here.

Then, there was another rave...

And then, I slept the whole way home. ^~^

It was a good con. I hate all the drama it has caused, though. Unfortunate... Personally, I had a good time.

Thank you for looking! Let me know if you saw me there or just want to say hello! ^o^

Steampunk Shoes Work and Progress

This is a walk-through for how I made my shoes in the above steampunk-y costume I wore for Anime Matsuri. They took me hours. It was still really fun. I had never done wood work before. So, it was a new and informative experience.

These were the first, so called, concept (snapchats) drawings.
...I am a dork.

I ended up getting these shoes because they were about $5. But.. they are two and a half sizes too big. Oh, well. I do not think I will wear them very often.
I got a little help gluing some 2x4s together to get height for the platforms. Then, cutting the shape of the sole of the shoe.

I cut off the heel of the boots and traced the line of the sole of the shoe onto the side of the platforms and used the band saw to cut and shape it.

Surprisingly, they fit nicely.

Then, I sketched on my designs onto the side of the platforms...

Drill press...

Chisel and hammer... I felt like one of Santa's elves.

Dremel tool...

Progress...
(By this point, I had ruined three bits... Ugh.)

Then, caulking and screws through the sole to secure it...

Then, paint and tadaaa!
